Group Therapy

Struggling alone? Need support and a safe place to learn and talk? Then group therapy is for you! Group therapy is also a great option when individual therapy is not available or too costly.

We often:

  • don’t want to burden our support system (family, friends) with how we are feeling and thinking - we’ve got you covered!

  • feel like we are the only one struggling – rest assured, you are not!

Many people think of therapy as something you do in private with one therapist, but therapy in a group setting can be rewarding option. The thought of participating in a group setting for therapy can initially be intimidating however, groups have many benefits.

At Peace of Mind Therapy and Consultation we offer skills strategy sessions (one-time sessions) as well as specific group options for people who have similar experiences or symptoms (ongoing group sessions for a specific group of participants). Our group room is designed for calm and comfort.

Benefits of Group Therapy

Groups provide a safe space – what happens in the group, stays in the group. Group members agree to value others and keep their confidentiality.

Groups provide support – support comes from knowing you aren’t alone. Sharing and hearing from others increases connection and a sense of belonging. We often feel isolated in our lives. Maybe we don’t feel we can share with people in our support system or maybe we don’t have a support system. Groups provide the opportunity to lessen isolation and increase support.

Encouragement and motivation – we tend to make changes when we share and are accountable to others. Being in a supportive environment can be especially helpful.

Finding your voice – group therapy gives you a voice and creates a sense of agency. When you are with other people who have similar experiences, thoughts, or emotions, you feel seen and heard. This can allow you to voice what is important to you.

Healing from shared vulnerability – groups offer a place where you can learn new skills, share your thoughts and feelings (but only if you are comfortable doing so), and share in the vulnerability of others (encouraging, listening, and hearing them). Groups offer a safe place where you can talk without the fear of judgment. From this shared space, we can find motivation, optimism, and strength for our healing journey.

Groups help you learn and grow – learning about yourself, others, new perspectives, new coping strategies, and new ways to view yourself and the world helps you to grow and move forward.

Specialized information – skills groups offer information on a topic and specific coping strategies. The group provides opportunities to learn and practice skills.

Cost! – group therapy costs less than individual therapy.
