Kristy Loewen

PSYCHOTHERAPIST (Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology)

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutritional Sciences from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am in the process of obtaining the Canadian Certified Counselor designation through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Since 2007 I have been doing nutrition counselling with clients one-on-one and have run nutrition related group sessions.

At Peace of Mind Therapy, I will be providing services to teens (15+) and adult clients to assist with anxiety, depressed mood, stress management, eating issues (including digestive upset and other gastrointestinal problems), dealing with adult ADHD, parenting struggles, and any other general mental health issues.

I can also focus on Nutrition Therapy which is not only what to eat, but also the why, when, and how we eat. I know that the often overlooked ‘why’ we eat is where people can really make positive changes. I help people come up with realistic plans to help improve their quality of life.

My practice has evolved from my connection to the Adlerian Theory which emphasizes the need to change therapy tactics based on the client’s needs. This is done with an encouraging, challenging, and collaborative approach that promotes social connection.  With that in mind, I use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, acceptance commitment theory (ACT), exposure therapy, behavioural activation, narrative therapy, and Gestalt therapy.

While working at Peace of Mind Therapy and Consultation I receive supervision from clinic director and registered psychologist, Dr. Kelly Penner Hutton.
