Dr. Karmen McDivitt

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST CANDIDATE (C.Psych Candidate, Supervised)

Dr. McDivitt obtained her Psychology Bachelor of Arts-Honours degree from the University of British Columbia - Okanagan, and her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Manitoba. She completed her pre-doctoral residency through Clinical Health Psychology, Health Sciences Centre, and Shared Health, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  She is currently registered as a Clinical Psychologist Candidate with the Psychological Association of Manitoba and is supervised by Dr. Kelly Penner Hutton. Dr. McDivitt has provided services at Peace of Mind Therapy & Consultation since 2018.

Dr. McDivitt uses an integrative-process based approach informed by evidence-based modalities including humanistic (Rogerian client-centered, attachment theory, emotion focused), psychodynamic, and third wave cognitive behavioural therapies (CBT) such as dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based, and compassion focused therapy. Dr. McDivitt also has training in exposure-based trauma therapies including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused CBT.

Dr. McDivitt provides treatment in the following areas:

  • Neurodiversity (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder)

  • Psychological support for health concerns/medical conditions (e.g., inflammatory bowel disease)

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Trauma (e.g., acute stress, post-traumatic stress, past childhood trauma)

  • Stress (e.g., work, school, relationships)

  • Adjustment challenges/life transitions

Dr. McDivitt works with the following populations:

 Dr. McDivitt also regularly completes psycho-educational and psycho-diagnostic assessments and is trained to diagnose mental health conditions. These assessments may include cognitive (intellectual), academic, memory, personality, internalizing symptoms (e.g., anxiety, mood), adaptive functioning, attention/hyperactivity/executive functioning, and autism related characteristics. Assessments typically include a clinical interview, historical documentation (e.g., school or medical records), standardized testing, informal tests and surveys, and observational data.
